Effective Altruism Domains (ea.domains) is a community infrastructure project run under the Alignment Ecosystem Development (AED) umbrella. Its mission is to ensure that valuable domain names in key EA and AI safety cause areas are held by the community rather than squatters, and made available free of charge to project founders with executable plans. The project was launched by the EA community member known as Plex in January 2023, and later partnered with the Centre for Effective Altruism, which contributed 215 of its parked domains to the database. Domains can be requested for use and, if a project succeeds, transferred to the project owner.

Theory of Change
By proactively registering and holding domain names relevant to EA and AI safety cause areas, the project prevents bad actors or opportunists from squatting those names and extracting rent from legitimate projects. Reducing friction and cost for new EA project founders accelerates the creation of impactful organizations and resources in the AI safety ecosystem.
