Training for Good (TFG) was founded in 2021 through Charity Entrepreneurship to address talent bottlenecks in the effective altruism ecosystem. Its mission was to identify critical skill gaps and deliver targeted training programs that placed professionals in high-impact roles. After an initial phase running short-form training courses, TFG pivoted to placement-based fellowships: the EU Tech Policy Fellowship for early-career EU AI policy professionals, and the Tarbell Fellowship for journalists covering artificial intelligence. By 2024, both programs had been spun off as independent organizations — Talos Network and the Tarbell Center for AI Journalism — effectively completing TFG's role as an incubation and launch vehicle.

Theory of Change
Training for Good believed that the EA movement's impact was constrained by talent bottlenecks: not enough people with the right skills to fill high-value roles in AI policy, grantmaking, research, and related areas. By running targeted training and fellowship programs, TFG aimed to increase the supply of skilled professionals in these areas, enabling EA-aligned organizations to hire effectively and thereby increasing the overall impact of the movement. The fellowships in particular focused on EU AI policy and journalism as leverage points — both career paths with outsized influence over how society governs advanced AI.
