AI Safety Hub (formally AI Safety Hub Ltd) was a UK private limited company founded in 2022 by Julia Karbing, an Open Philanthropy Century Fellow. The organization focused on AI safety movement building, primarily through its flagship Safety Labs programme, which placed early-career researchers in supervised groups of 3-5 to complete 12-week AI safety research projects aimed at producing ML workshop-quality preprints. The organization also supported local AI safety university groups and ran community events and courses. It received funding from Open Philanthropy and was dissolved in August 2024.

Theory of Change
AI Safety Hub believed that a key bottleneck in AI safety is the shortage of skilled researchers. By running structured, supervised research programmes for early-career researchers, the organization aimed to accelerate their transition into productive contributors to AI safety research. Each Labs cohort participant who goes on to work in AI safety represents a net addition to research capacity in a field where talent is scarce. Community events and university group support served a similar pipeline function, identifying and developing promising individuals earlier in their careers.
