James Grugett
Bio
James Grugett is a software entrepreneur and co-founder of Manifold Markets, a play-money prediction market platform he launched in 2021 alongside his brother Stephen Grugett and Austin Chen. He studied Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University and previously worked at Google and Microsoft before founding Throne, a group chat subscription startup, and then Manifold Markets. Manifold Markets received a $200,000 grant from the Long-Term Future Fund in early 2022 to support its development as a forecasting tool with ties to the effective altruism and rationalist communities. James has spoken publicly about the potential and limitations of prediction markets, including a talk at Manifest Conference titled 'Prediction Markets Will Save the World.' As of 2024, he co-founded Codebuff, a CLI-based coding agent backed by Y Combinator, where he serves as CEO. He is based in San Francisco, CA.
