We're building a public coordination layer for AI safety funding — so donors can move faster, grantees can stay visible, and the ecosystem can share more of its knowledge.

Fund impactful AI safety work

The AI safety funding landscape is growing fast. Large funds, donor advisors, and private networks are already moving substantial money into major organizations and legible grants.

grantmaking.ai is built for the gap underneath that: small, public, high-upside opportunities where current funding status is hard to find, expert judgment is scattered, and a small grant can change what happens next.

Our thesis

We don’t try to replace the major funders. We fill the layer they’re least designed to serve.

The major AI safety funders are doing important work. For many donors, especially those giving large amounts and wanting to delegate, they are the right first stop.

But the marginal funding gap is different for smaller opportunities. A $20K grant can be too small for an institutional review process, too early for a major fund, too hard to discover without insider networks, and too urgent to wait months.

That is the layer grantmaking.ai is designed for: public profiles, live funding status, expert and community signal, and rapid grants for small AI safety opportunities.

Avoid duplicating large-fund work

We prioritize opportunities where a major funder is unlikely to have already done full diligence.

Find live funding gaps

We care whether a project actually needs money now, not just whether it sounds promising.

Make judgment public

Reviews, endorsements, concerns, and updates should become reusable ecosystem knowledge.

Scale small grants

The goal is repeatable infrastructure for millions of dollars in small AI safety grants.

Good default options

The major options are good for set and forget giving.

If you think the highest impact per dollar is found by the biggest funders carefully giving to large legible opportunities, these are the best options.

Coefficient Giving logo

Major donor advising

Coefficient Giving

Best for major donors who want sophisticated strategic advising or pooled cause-area funds. Its AI safety work spans technical safety, governance, capacity building, and other field-shaping grants.

Use this when

You want high-quality strategic delegation.

Watch for

Less suited to small, fast, public, donor-directed grants.

Longview Philanthropy logo

Advised frontier AI giving

Longview Philanthropy

Best for donors who want expert-advised giving into frontier AI work. Its Frontier AI Fund raised $20M and disbursed $11.1M to 18 organizations in its first nine months.

Use this when

You want a donor-advisory relationship or pooled frontier-AI fund.

Watch for

More private and advisor-led than public/open.

Survival and Flourishing Fund logo

Recommender-led grants

Survival and Flourishing Fund

Best as a source of high-signal public recommendations and matching opportunities. Its 2025 round listed $34.92M in expected funding tied to S-process recommendations.

Use this when

You want to follow recommender-driven public grant lists.

Watch for

Not a simple retail donate-to-this-fund experience for most donors.

Where we fit

grantmaking.ai is the public small-grant layer.

We are trying to make a neglected segment fundable at scale.

We focus on opportunities that are small enough to be missed by major funds, public enough to benefit from open evaluation, early enough that fast money matters, and concrete enough that funders can act without months of diligence.

What we provide

Public infrastructure for smaller AI safety grants.

A public map

AI safety organizations, projects, individuals, grants, and funds in one searchable database.

Current funding status

Fundraising goals, runway, pending applications, and funding history where available.

Trusted signal

Reviewer picks, endorsements, concerns, comments, and funder-visible debate.

Small-grant infrastructure

Rounds and workflows designed for $1K-$50K grants, not just large institutional checks.
