Updated 05/18/26FABRIC is a nonprofit educational organization based in Prague, Czech Republic, that runs immersive workshops for mathematically talented students who want to understand themselves and the world. The organization operates under the legal entity FABRIC Labs, z.s., registered in October 2023. FABRIC's roots trace back to 2016, when EuroSPARC was launched as a European counterpart to the US-based SPARC program. The program was renamed ESPR (European Summer Program on Rationality) and initially operated under CFAR (Center for Applied Rationality). In 2019, Jan Kulveit, a former research fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford, became ESPR's director and moved operations to a new European entity in Prague. As the team's activities expanded beyond Europe, the programs were unified under the FABRIC brand in 2023. FABRIC currently runs four main programs. ESPR is a 10-day workshop for students ages 16-19 covering applied rationality, game theory, cryptography, mathematical logic, AI evaluation, and cognitive science. PAIR (Program on AI and Reasoning) serves students ages 16-21 with deeper focus on artificial intelligence, information theory, predictive processing, and how current AI systems work. ASPR (Asian Spring Programme on Rationality) brings similar content to students primarily from Asia and Oceania. WARP (Wandering Applied Rationality Program) is a joint venture with SPARC that alternates between Europe and the US. The camps typically host about 30 students alongside a dozen staff members at residential venues, most recently a 16th-century country mansion in Somerset, UK. The organization is led by Jan Kulveit (Chair and Executive Director) and Anna Gajdova (Vice-Chair), with a teaching team that includes researchers from institutions like Google DeepMind, Charles University Prague, and NASA. Past guest speakers have included Scott Aaronson and Anders Sandberg. All programs are completely free for accepted students, covering tuition, meals, lodging, and travel expenses. The alumni community has grown to approximately 400 people from around the world, many of whom go on to pursue AI safety research, found startups, or continue in academic research. FABRIC has received significant funding from Open Philanthropy (now Coefficient Giving), Carina Initiatives, and the Survival and Flourishing Fund.

By providing free, immersive programs that teach rigorous quantitative thinking, rationality skills, and AI literacy to mathematically talented 16-21 year olds, FABRIC aims to shape how the next generation of researchers and decision-makers think about AI and existential risk. The alumni network of approximately 400 people creates a lasting community of analytically skilled individuals who are exposed early to AI safety concepts and connected with mentors working in the field.
