Org Details
Updated 05/18/26Probably Good is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people build careers that are good for them and good for the world. It was announced on the EA Forum in November 2020 by brothers Omer Nevo and Sella Nevo, both co-founders of Effective Altruism Israel, who developed the concept after piloting career advice services locally and identifying gaps in globally accessible, cause-neutral career guidance. The organization provides a range of free services: a comprehensive end-to-end career guide, in-depth career profiles covering fields such as biosecurity, AI safety, global health, animal welfare, journalism, and climate; a high-impact job board launched in May 2024 featuring over 1,300 active roles; and personalized 1-on-1 career advising, which was relaunched in April 2025 after a period of refinement. They also run career workshops for groups. Probably Good positions itself as complementary to 80,000 Hours, explicitly targeting people who may not fit 80K's priority paths and aiming for broader worldview, geographic, and educational diversity among advisees. The organization is cause-neutral, helping people make progress toward impactful work regardless of which cause areas they prioritize. Leadership has transitioned since founding: Itamar Shatz (PhD, Cambridge) serves as Executive Director, while founders Omer and Sella Nevo sit on the Board of Directors. Core staff include a Senior Researcher, Operations Manager, Senior Marketer, Senior Advisor, and Groups Lead. The advisory board includes Julia Wise (GiveWell), Michelle Hutchinson (80,000 Hours), and Joey Savoie (Charity Entrepreneurship). Probably Good has received multiple grants from Open Philanthropy, including a $2,000,000 general support grant over two years announced in January 2025. The legal entity is Probably Good Foundation Inc., a US 501(c)(3) with EIN 99-2361194. Donations are accepted via Every.org.
Theory of Change
Updated 05/18/26Probably Good believes that talent is a key bottleneck for high-impact work, and that most people lack access to rigorous, evidence-based career guidance tailored to doing good. By providing free, cause-neutral resources and direct advising at scale, the organization aims to direct a larger and more diverse audience toward high-impact careers. Their theory of change operates through three pathways: directly steering people into highly impactful roles, drawing people incrementally toward the effective altruism community and its norms, and helping individuals move progressively toward even more impactful careers over time. A broader talent pipeline at mission-driven organizations reduces a key constraint on civilizational flourishing and existential risk reduction.
