Fabio Haenel
Bio
Fabio Haenel is an AI strategy professional and researcher based in Berlin, Germany, currently serving as AI Strategy Team Lead at Merantix Momentum, a role he has held since October 2024 after joining the company in April 2022. He holds an M.A. in Global Studies from Leipzig University's Global and European Studies Institute and a Master's in International Relations from the University of Wroclaw, with additional study at Fudan University and the University of Freiburg. His research focuses on information technology and politics, international security, and AI governance, including a published paper on the prospects and dangers of artificial intelligence for international security in the context of a Sino-American arms race. Prior to Merantix Momentum, he served as Project Lead at IZT (Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment), UNESCO Futures Literacy Lab Co-Facilitator at futurehain, and Head of Falling Walls Circle at the Falling Walls Foundation. He received a Long-Term Future Fund grant to attend a two-week Science Diplomacy Summer School at SciTech DiploHub in Barcelona, aimed at building expertise at the science-policy interface to reduce risks from technological development and global conflict.
