Ruth Grace Wong
Bio
Ruth Grace Wong is a site reliability engineer based in San Francisco, California, currently working at Pinterest. She is also active as a manufacturing engineer on side projects including sewn goods products. In the effective altruism community, she co-organizes EA Gather Town (a virtual coworking and socializing space) and the EA San Francisco local group. Her connection to EA grantmaking research centers on her analysis of philanthropy-driven movement-building strategy: she authored a detailed EA Forum post examining how historical philanthropic movements (such as those funded by the Koch brothers and the John M. Olin Foundation) built influence, and applying those lessons to evaluate Open Philanthropy's criminal justice reform grantmaking. She received a grant to produce a research paper on the history of philanthropy-driven national-scale movement-building strategy, intended to inform how EA funders might approach building movements for good. She also writes on topics including infrastructure, supply chains, housing policy, and parenting in San Francisco.
