S.M. Amadae

S.M. Amadae is Director of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and a tenured political scientist at the University of Helsinki whose research focuses on nuclear war and security, climate change and collective action, and AI’s impact on humanity’s ability to govern catastrophic risks. She joined CSER as Director in March 2025 from the University of Helsinki, following an academic career that includes authoring the books Prisoners of Reason and Rationalizing Capitalist Democracy and holding professorships or visiting appointments at institutions such as Central European University, Ohio State University, Swansea University, the London School of Economics, the New School and Harvard Kennedy School.
