Simon Grimm
Bio
Simon Grimm (Simon Leander Grimm) is a medical doctor and biosecurity researcher working on pandemic early warning systems. He is a visiting researcher at Kevin Esvelt's Sculpting Evolution group at the MIT Media Lab, and has served as Technical Program Manager (Detection) and Head of Biosecurity Response at SecureBio, where he contributes to the Nucleic Acid Observatory (NAO) — a project building reliable early detection systems for catastrophic biological threats using metagenomic sequencing and wastewater surveillance. His research has been published in The Lancet Microbe and the Journal of Aerosol Science, and he has authored policy briefs for organizations including the Institute for Progress. He was selected for the Fellowship for Ending Bioweapons Programs at the Council on Strategic Risks. Grimm is also active in the effective altruism community, writing on topics including biosecurity, higher education policy, and progress in Germany, and he maintains a Substack newsletter and personal website at simongrimm.com.
