The Hinton Lectures™
About
Updated 05/18/26Launched in 2024, The Hinton Lectures™ is a flagship public program of The AI Safety Foundation developed with Professor Geoffrey Hinton and the Global Risk Institute. Hosted in Toronto over three evenings each year, the series features world-leading AI safety experts who present lectures and panel discussions on subjects such as emergent misalignment, deceptive behaviour and situational awareness in advanced AI systems. The event is designed to demystify AI for the public, provide an open forum where researchers, industry leaders and policymakers can debate AI’s future, and highlight both the catastrophic risks and potential solutions associated with powerful AI.
Theory of Change
The Hinton Lectures™ operates on the premise that accessible, high-quality scientific discussion of AI safety is needed to shift public understanding and policymaker attention toward catastrophic AI risks. By convening leading researchers to explain technical safety challenges and potential mitigations in a public forum, the series aims to demystify frontier AI, surface emerging vulnerabilities, and build informed support for more robust governance and safety research.
