Job Board
About
The 80,000 Hours Job Board is a free, publicly accessible platform that aggregates and curates job opportunities at mission-driven organizations working on global priorities such as AI safety and alignment, biosecurity, and other areas that 80,000 Hours considers the world's most pressing problems. It operates as a core product of 80,000 Hours Limited, a not-for-profit company registered in England and Wales, which was founded in 2011 by Ben Todd and Will MacAskill as part of the effective altruism movement. The board's curation process involves three steps: sourcing roles by monitoring organizational vacancy pages, consulting domain experts, and accepting external submissions; reviewing each listing against criteria related to direct impact or career capital development; and publishing vetted roles in a searchable, filterable interface at jobs.80000hours.org. Roles are included if they contribute to solving identified key problems or provide valuable career development for those seeking future impact. Listing a role does not constitute an endorsement of the entire organization, only the specific position. As of 2024, the job board listed approximately 5,498 vacancies per year, generated 961,519 clicks to hiring organizations, and resulted in at least 142 confirmed placements — with the team estimating the true number is likely up to 3x higher due to incomplete tracking. An additional 40 placements were documented in the first half of 2025. The platform features AI-generated job summaries, personalized matching, email alerts, keyboard shortcuts, and an Airtable export. Coverage is strongest in the US and UK markets. The job board is staffed by a dedicated product engineer (Conor Barnes) operating within 80,000 Hours' broader team of roughly 37 FTE staff and contractors as of 2024. The parent organization's overall annual spending was approximately $10.38 million in 2024, funded primarily by philanthropic donations; the largest funder is Coefficient Giving (backed by Dustin Moskovitz and Cari Tuna), which has contributed over £20 million cumulatively. In April 2025, 80,000 Hours spun out from Effective Ventures into an independent legal entity. Users spend more time on the job board than on any other single page on the 80,000 Hours website, and 59% of respondents to the 2024 EA Survey cited 80,000 Hours as an important factor in their engagement with effective altruism.
