William D'Alessandro (also known as Bill D'Alessandro) is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he joined in August 2024. He holds a PhD in philosophy from the University of Illinois Chicago (2017) and has held postdoctoral positions at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (LMU Munich) and as a Marie Curie/UKRI Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford, as well as a Philosophy Fellowship at the Center for AI Safety in 2023. His research spans philosophy of science and mathematics, with growing focus on applied ethics and AI safety, including deontological approaches to AI risk and the ethics of longtermism.
