Org Details
Updated 05/18/26Effective Altruism Israel (EA Israel) is a registered Israeli nonprofit headquartered in Tel Aviv, founded in the fourth quarter of 2018. It is the central hub for the effective altruism movement in Israel, building and supporting a community of people committed to doing the most good possible with their resources and careers. The organization operates across four major verticals. First, education and outreach: EA Israel runs university fellowship programs at Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University, an accredited university course at TAU that has received top student ratings, crash courses for the general public, and approximately 20 public events per year reaching hundreds of participants. Second, member action support: the organization provides career consulting services, job and volunteer matching, and a co-working space for community members pursuing high-impact work. Third, effective giving: the flagship Maximum Impact Program conducts cost-effectiveness analyses of Israeli nonprofits to identify those offering the greatest impact per shekel donated, and EA Israel launched the Effective Giving Israel platform to enable tax-deductible donations to highly effective charities. Fourth, organizational infrastructure and incubation: EA Israel has supported the creation of multiple spin-off impact organizations, including Probably Good (a career guidance organization) and ALTER (the Association for Long-Term Existence and Resilience, focused on existential risk policy in Israel). As of the end of 2022, EA Israel had grown its staff from 2 part-time employees to 7 full-time staff, and its highly engaged community reached approximately 100 active members with 80 volunteers. The organization received its first major institutional support from Open Philanthropy ($139,228 for an information security talent development pilot) and has been supported by the EA Infrastructure Fund. It also received a grant from the FTX Future Fund that was subsequently frozen following FTX's collapse in late 2022. EA Israel obtained Israeli nonprofit tax-exempt status in late 2022, a milestone that allowed it to offer tax-deductible donations locally. In January 2026, the organization hosted Israel's first Impact Summit at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, drawing approximately 250 participants from across the Israeli impact community. The event featured talks, workshops, and an opportunities fair with over 20 impact organizations.
Theory of Change
Updated 05/18/26EA Israel believes that building a high-quality, outward-facing EA community in Israel is instrumental to solving the world's most pressing problems. By educating Israeli professionals about effective altruism principles, guiding them into high-impact careers, improving the cost-effectiveness of Israeli philanthropy, and incubating new impactful organizations, the community multiplies its collective impact beyond what any individual could achieve. The organization treats community growth as a means to an end — the end being a materially better world — and therefore focuses on depth of engagement and launching concrete projects rather than raw membership numbers. Supporting the development of AI safety talent and existential risk work in Israel (through programs like information security talent development and the ALTER spinoff) is part of a broader strategy to increase the global pipeline of people working on humanity's most important problems.
