Maximum Impact
About
Updated 05/18/26Maximum Impact is a philanthropic evaluation initiative run by Effective Altruism Israel that aims to significantly increase the impact of Israeli philanthropy. The program conducts cost-effectiveness analyses of local nonprofits, identifies especially high-impact organizations, and promotes effective giving based on this research. In its pilot year, it selected around 25 promising NGOs from more than 160 applicants, supported about 21 of them to publish their first cost-effectiveness reports, and highlighted a small number as relatively cost-effective, engaging Israeli philanthropies with the results.
Theory of Change
Maximum Impact’s theory of change is to make Israeli philanthropy more evidence-based and impactful by conducting rigorous cost-effectiveness analyses for selected local nonprofits, using these analyses to surface the most cost-effective opportunities, and sharing results and recommendations with donors so more funding flows to the highest-impact organizations. By operating as a program of Effective Altruism Israel, it also aims to strengthen the Israeli effective altruism community through action-oriented collaborations with nonprofits and philanthropists and to develop a model for local effective-giving initiatives that can be replicated elsewhere.
